Stuff I've Always Wanted to Know

One of the things that often happens when working within communities with whom we are unfamiliar is a lack of  awareness and knowledge regarding group culture and communication.  The LGBTQ community is a very diverse community, even though we most often see all the initials together, as if they represented a single group identity.

Any credibility one hopes to have working in the community can be quickly lost when such assumptions are made and communication quickly becomes ineffective because of stereotypes and assumptions.  As with many other typically marginalized groups, the LGBTQ community has carried more than its share of myths and lies.

We would like to suggest that we use this page to try and "unpack" truth from "what's not!"  We're pretty certain not everything will be serious, because there are plenty of assumptions wrapped in many years of stereotypes that are both humorous and dangerous.
